Downrigging 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of the schooner SULTANA. Her 2001 launch culminated five years of work and over 300,000 volunteer hours, all dedicated to creating a schoolship that connects students to the history and environment of the Chesapeake Bay.

In the 25 years since its launch, SULTANA has voyaged with more than 100,000 children and inspired the growth of additional programs that now serve 13,000 students annually. She is a shining example of what happens when a community unites with a common purpose.
