KALMAR NYCKEL is a full-scale replica of the 17th-century Dutch-built Swedish naval vessel that carried settlers to establish the colony of New Sweden in 1638. Launched in 1997 and operated by the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation, she serves as Delaware’s official tall ship and sails seasonally along the East Coast. Through hands-on educational programs and public sails, KALMAR NYCKEL connects thousands of visitors each year to maritime history, traditional seamanship, and life aboard a historic sailing vessel.
