Health & Safety

The Sultana Education Foundation is committed to operating its 2021 Downrigging Weekend festival to best protect the health and safety of our guests, staff, volunteers, vendors, and the greater Chestertown community.   Working in conjunction with various government officials and medical advisors we have developed the following Covid 19 protocols for the festival.

2021 Downrigging Weekend Protocols

Self-Screening:  Please stay home if you are experiencing symptoms consistent with Covid 19 (fever or chills; cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fatigue; muscle or body aches; headache; new loss of taste or smell; sore throat; congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; diarrhea), if you are currently waiting for the result of a Covid 19 test, or if you have recently been exposed to someone with Covid 19.   If you experience symptoms at Downrigging, please leave the event at your earliest opportunity and consult a medical professional.

Vaccination / Testing Requirements:  Proof of vaccination (with a final vaccination date no later than October 15, 2021) is required for guests 18 years of age or older for admittance to the following Downrigging events:

  • Music Village, including food vendors and all musical performances
  • The Skip Finley Lecture at the Garfield Center for the Arts

Guests 5-17 years of age may provide either proof of vaccination or proof of a negative Covid 19 PCR test conducted within 72 hours prior to entry.  Please note, negative test results are not acceptable for adults (18+) unless they are requesting a religious or medical exemption (see below). There are no entry restrictions for guests 4 years of age or younger.

Proof of Vaccination:  The following are acceptable as proof of vaccination:

  • Register at https://gogetdoc.com/vaxyes and present QR code on your smart phone at entry
  • Present CDC vaccination card (or image of card) and photo ID at entry

Masks:  Masks are required for guests at Sultana’s Holt Center and for the Skip Finley lecture at the Garfield Center for the Arts.  Masks are recommended for guests at the Music Village.  Masks may be required for certain voluntary activities while sailing on KALMAR NYCKEL and SULTANA.  Masks are not required for children under 3 years of age.

Social Distancing:  Where possible or appropriate additional open space is being provided at Downrigging 2021.  Capacity has also been reduced for some events.  Guests are encouraged to spread out to the greatest degree possible.

Contact Tracing: Please notify your local health department if you test positive for COVID-19 or begin to develop COVID-19 symptoms within 48 hours after attending Downrigging Weekend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do minors have the option to provide a negative covid test to gain entry to certain events but adults do not?

Children make up a small portion of the Downrigging audience and those under 12 are not eligible to be vaccinated.  We want to keep Downrigging “family friendly” so we have made this special accommodation for minors and families.

If vaccinated people can still catch and spread Covid 19, why do you require vaccinations for certain events?

While true that vaccinated people can catch and spread Covid 19, we have been advised that these outcomes are less likely than for people who have not been vaccinated.

What if I have a qualifying medical exemption that prevents vaccination or a sincerely held religious belief?

Please email lbrocker@sultanaeducation.org and be prepared to provide written documentation of your request for exemption.  Participants claiming exemption must provide proof of a negative covid 19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the event to which they are seeking entry.
