Join Duncan Hood, Board Chair of the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race (GCBSR), for a fast-paced, multi-media presentation recounting how a late-night, barroom challenge between a sailing tugboat and the PRIDE OF BALTIMORE II in 1988 evolved to become an iconic annual event with a lasting impact on the Chesapeake Bay. Each October, the GCBSR attracts a fleet of schooners and historic sailing craft from up and down the East Coast for a spirited race from Annapolis to Norfolk. The race has generated more than its fair share of spectacle while spawning a tight-knit community and year-round programs that have raised hundreds-of-thousands of dollars for preservation-minded nonprofits and impacted the lives of thousands of children through related educational programs.
