Coastal Queen

The Sultana Education Foundation is excited to welcome Coastal Queen for its first-ever appearance at Downrigging Weekend.   Built in Hudson, Maryland and launched in 1929 as the A.G Price, the vessel spent its first 30 years as a commercial “buy boat,” hauling market goods and seafood on the Chesapeake Bay.   Converted to a yacht in 1959 and rechristened Coastal Queen, the vessel has a storied history and featured prominently in Anthony Bailey’s book The Inside Passage, which recounts a voyage on the vessel up the Intercoastal Waterway.

Coastal Queen comes to Downrigging Weekend fresh from an extensive multi-year rebuild at McMillen Yachts in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  The process of her rebirth has been chronicled in a series of short documentaries by New York filmmaker and photographer Peter Slack and linked via YouTube below.

Coastal Queen will be available for dockside viewing at Downrigging Weekend but will not be open for on-board tours.
